The present article analyses Thomas Mann’s tale of ‚Herr und Hund‘ (A Man and His Dog) with the methods of Cultural and Literary Animal Studies. The focus is on the investigation of human-animal interactions that occur in the text. The study evaluates those factors that shape the development of the relationship between the autodiegetic narrator and his dog. In addition, the article analyses how the dog Bauschan influences his master and how this is reflected in the shared relationship.
